Teeny Tiny Tangerine Preemie Beanie

A little citrusy beanie for the preemie babies!

Summer always inspires me to create fruity-themed designs- so here's another for the collection! These Teeny Tiny Tangerine Preemie Beanies whip up quick and are so satisfying to make. The best part is that you don't have to embroider the seeds! I make little dots of puff paint around the hat, set it to dry for a few hours, and it's good to go!

I hope this pattern inspires and enables you to crochet some beanies for a NICU near you this summer! Let me know in the comments where you will be donating your finished tangerine beanies.

  • Worsted weight yarn in orange, brown, and green. I used Caron One Pound in the colors "Succulent" and "Faded Brick", and Joann Big Twist Value in the color "Taupe".

  • White puff paint

  • Size H (5 mm) crochet hook

  • Tapestry needle

ABBREVIATIONS

  • Ch = chain

  • St = stitch

  • Sl St = slip stitch

  • Sc = single crochet

  • Hdc = half double crochet

  • Dc = double crochet

PATTERN

With orange yarn:

Round 1: Ch 2, 10 Dc in 2nd Ch from hook. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 Dc in each St around. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 3: Ch 1, *2 Dc in the first St, 1 Dc in the next St* Repeat from *to* around. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 Sc in each St around. Sl St to the top of the first Sc in the round to join. Tie off and weave in ends.

Leaves (make 2)

With green yarn:

Round 1: Ch 7. Starting in the 2nd Ch from hook: Sc, Hdc, Dc, Hdc, Sc. Sl St. On the opposite side of the Ch: Sc, Hdc, Dc, Hdc, Sc. Sl St to the first Sc in the round to join. Tie off, leaving an 8'' tail for assembly.

Stem

With brown yarn:

Ch 4. Make 1 Sc in the 2nd Ch from hook and remaining 2 Ch's. Tie off, leaving an 8'' tail for assembly.

Assembly

Using a tapestry needle and the remaining yarn ends, attach the stem and leaves to the very top of the beanie. I like to use a few whip stitches to secure each piece. Tie off and weave in ends.

Seeds

Use white puff paint to make small dots around the beanie, approximately 1'' apart or as desired. Let sit for 4-6 hours or until completely dry.
