An itty bitty berry beanie to fit 2-3 lb babies!
These are some of the smallest preemie beanies I've made in awhile! Their finished size is about 3'' tall and 9'' around, and will fit a 2-3lb baby. Rather than embroidery, I use white puff paint for quick and easy seed embellishments. This also allows the beanie to maintain its stretch (sometimes embroidery can stiffen the fabric).
For this pattern, I use Hobbii Twister Solid yarn. This is a sport-weight cotton and acrylic blend that is OEKO-TEX approved and silky soft for the NICU babies. You can also use another sport, DK, or baby-weight yarn.

Leaves
Round 1: With green yarn, Ch 3. In the third Ch from hook, make 12 Dc. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 Dc in the first St. In the next St: 2 Dc, Sl St. This creates the first petal. *Sl St in to the next St. 2 Dc in the first St. In the next St: 2 Dc, Sl St.* Repeat from * to * 4 more times for a total of 6 petals. Tie off, leaving an 8'' tail for assembly.
Assembly
Using the remaining yarn tail and a tapestry needle, secure the leaves to the top of the beanie with a few stitches.
Make small dots of white puff paint approximately 1'' apart throughout the beanie to create the seeds.
