Bitty Berry Strawberry Preemie Beanie

an itty bitty, strawberry-inspired preemie beanie!

Materials:

  • Light/DK yarn - 1 skein of each red, green and white

I used:

1 Skein Hobbii Amigo in Christmas Red

1 Skein Hobbii Amigo in Emerald Green

1 Skein Hobbii Amigo in White

  • 3.5 mm crochet hook

  • Tapestry Needle

Finished size: approximately 3.5'' wide by 3.5'' long

Notes: The beanie pattern is worked in joined, unturned rounds. At the end of each round, Sl St to the top of the first stitch in the round, and Ch 1 at the start of the next round (as written).

Abbreviations:

  • Ch = chain

  • Sl St = slip stitch

  • Sc = single crochet

  • Dc = double crochet

Make the red beanie base:

With red yarn:

Round 1: Ch 3, 15 Dc in the third Ch from hook. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 Dc in each St around. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 3: Ch 1, *2 Dc in the first St, 1 Dc in the next St* Repeat from * to * around. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 4: Ch 1, *2 Dc in the first St, 1 Dc in the next St* Repeat from * to * around. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Rounds 5-8: Ch 1, 1 Dc in each St around. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 9: Ch 1, 1 Sc in each St around. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Tie off and weave in ends.

Make the Strawberry Top Flower:

With green yarn:

Round 1: Ch 3, 10 Dc in the third Ch from hook. Sl St to the top of the first Dc in the round to join.

Round 2: *Ch 3, 4 Dc in the next St, Ch 3, Sl St in the next St.* Repeat from * to * around.

Tie off, leaving an 8'' tail for assembly.

Make the Strawberry Top Stem:

With green yarn:

Ch 4. Make 1 Sc in the 2nd Ch from hook and in each of the remaining 2 Ch. Tie off, leaving a 6'' tail for assembly.

Embroider the seeds:

With white yarn, embroider seeds between 2 & 3, 4 & 5, and 6 & 7. Tie off and weave in ends.

Hint: Try not to embroider the seeds too tightly, as they will not show through in the finished product.

Assembly:

Using the remaining yarn tails and a tapestry needle, secure the Strawberry Stem to the Strawberry Top Flower using a few whip stitches and finishing with a knot. In the same manner, secure the entire Strawberry top to the top of the beanie. Tie off and weave in ends.

Happy crocheting!
