Are you a crocheter who wants to get involved with Crocheted Coconuts? This is for you! Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make and donate your Crocheted Coconut prosthetics.
Because these prosthetics will be used on a very sensitive area of the patient's body, it is important that you follow the instructions, patterns, and material guidelines to a "t"!
STEP 1: GATHER MATERIALS
The materials you need are listed on the Crocheted Coconuts Crochet Pattern:
- 1 skein of yarn from the Approved Yarn List (my favorite is Bernat Baby Sport!)
Because the Crocheted Coconut prosthetic will be in contact with a sensitive area of skin that may be scarred from surgery or radiation, it is crucial that you use one of these approved yarns from this list. These yarns have all been tested and proven to be soft and stay soft through multiple washes.
- Crochet hook, size G
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Stitch marker or a scrap piece of yarn to mark your place
STEP 2: ACCESS & PRINT THE PATTERN OF YOUR DESIRED SIZE
STEP 3: CROCHET A COCONUT
Just follow the Crocheted Coconuts pattern!

STEP 4: PRINT, CUT OUT, AND FILL OUT A CARE CARD
Print the pdf below. You will need one Care Card for each Coconut. Fill out the circle in the top corner with your name and the size of your finished Coconut (A-DD)
STEP 5: DISTRUBUTE
You can give your finished Crocheted Coconut and Care Card to:
- Someone who is collecting Crocheted Coconuts to deliver to a medical facility
If you live in the Bay Area, Crocheted Coconuts has connections with local hospitals! Email themelcrochets@gmail.com for more info
- A friend/family member who you think would benefit from a Crocheted Coconut prosthetic
- Directly to a medical facility willing to accept & distribute Crocheted Coconuts
