The preemie beanie that can be worked up in less than 10 minutes!
Hobbii Yarns asked me to try out their new Umami yarn, and so of course I had to make some preemie beanies! The acrylic/wool blend is super soft, and being a super bulky yarn it works up sooo fast. The preemie size of this beanie only has 5 rounds with 16 stitches in each round - I'm in love.
This yarn is also OEKO-TEX certified to be free of toxins and chemicals, which is another reason why I'm so excited to mass produce a bunch of these for the NICU babies! You can purchase some of this Umami yarn here:
I used Umami in the colors Curry, Pale Purple, and Dusty Blue. My favorite would have to be the yellow! This design utilizes the Herringbone Half Double Crochet stitch, which adds an extra element of "squish" and warmth to the beanie. As usual, I've designed this in two different sizes - preemie and newborn. If you'd like a larger beanie, simply increase the number of stitches in the first round, and increase in the following row accordingly.
I hope this pattern inspires you to crochet some super quick, super cute bear beanies for a NICU or charity near you! My hope in creating this page is that you all will be inspired and enabled to use your talent of crochet to make a positive difference in the experience of families with babies in the NICU.
Happy crocheting!

Thank you so so very much for your free patterns Gor the premise babies. My don had open heart surgery and was in the hospital for many months and while there a women would make and donate hundreds of these hat and booty sets. Every morning she would come in with her basket full of new sets for you to choose from. I looked forward to dressing my baby in a new "outfit" every day. It made all the difference in the world to my heart as well as my mental health. With your patterns I plan on paying it forward.
Thank you
When first exploring your work from the Joann's crafts ad, I saw an instructional video from you. I can no longer find it! Can you please direct me? I'm excited about doing these, but need a refresher on some stitches, and things like rounding. Thanks!
